How is everyone’s weekend going? Thanks for spending a portion of it with the Six.
Quite a week in the ever-growing culture wars in our country. Between the gubernatorial elections in two east coast states and the Aaron Rodgers drama, every week seems to get more crazy.
This week on the Six, we’ve got articles on the stunning gubernatorial finish in Virginia and it’s long range political impact, how a truck driver unseated an establishment state representative in New Jersey, how artificial intelligence is integrating into school districts and rats (yes rats!) are running wild in New York City (and in people’s toilets).
Let’s proceed with the Six.
Tuesday was quite the night for the Republican party. A big gubernatorial victory in Virginia and almost flipped the office in New Jersey. The massive public interest in the off-cycle election year will only build as we roll into 2022 and the convention mid-term elections. What does 2021 tell us about what may lie ahead a year from now? Polling and data crunching website FiveThirtyEight breaks it all down.
How A Truck Driver Beat One Of New Jersey’s Most Powerful Politicians.
I couldn’t believe this story at first when I read it mid week. A New Jersey man ran for an assembly seat against the State Senate President. And he won. Edward Durr drives a furniture truck for a business called Raymour & Flanigan. Starting in January 2022, he will be a New Jersey state representative. Politico tackles the remarkable story of how it happened.
How Artificial Intelligence Spyware Took Over Schools.
One of the issues that decided the Virginia governor’s race was schools. How much say should parents have in public education vs. boards of education and administrators? This will be an ongoing debate and hot button topic not just in this year’s elections, but in races moving forward. In this fascinating piece by Bloomberg, schools and parents across the country are trying to find the right balance between privacy and protection as they hand kids personal portals to the web.
What’s In A Name? Top Baby Names of 2021.
Breaking news here…there’s a new No. 1 girls name on the ‘most popular baby name’ list. It’s Olivia, which unseats previous top name Sophia. Boys? The same winner three years running is Liam. Buzzfeed goes through the names for both sexes in this fun, breezy article.
Yikes! There’s A Rat In My Toilet.
You’ve probably seen some articles this week about the rat problem in New York City. They are turning up parks, on city streets…and in people’s home bathrooms. This video has been seen over 4 million times on TikTok. It’s of a rat swimming in a toilet, captured on someone’s smart phone camera. Listen to the people doing the filming address the varmint as “sir” and “distinguished gentleman.” Delightfully weird.
Man Gets Bitten By Snake, Genitalia Rots Away.
Keeping with the theme of toilets and uninvited house pets we close today’s Six with the disturbing tale of a South African man who, while on vacation, needed to take a bowel movement. He sat on the potty, and well, let’s just say his bathroom break turned into a life-changing experience. The Daily Caller has the rest of the story.
Have a great rest of your weekend everybody. Thanks for reading as always.
