How is everybody’s weekend going? Our final ‘official’ weekend of summer and I hope everyone is enjoying the terrific September weather.
I attended a couple of high school football games this weekend. Huge homecoming crowds, massive student sections and no masks. Watching a few college games Saturday, I saw the same. Riot Fest, a music festival in Douglass Park in Chicago, is going on this weekend. From what I saw on social media, attendance is robust. And the rock band Guns N’ Roses played Wrigley Field Thursday night to a sold out crowd (I missed GNR this time around but will catch them next time they are in town).
We are living our lives. For the most part, without restrictions.
But our schools continue to be plagued by overreaching rules and regulation.
What happened this week at Joliet West High School, for example, can happen anywhere.
Diligence towards the allowing students the freedoms we enjoy in every day life must press on.
Let’s proceed with the Six.
Why The Experts Want To Eliminate The Covid Control Group.
A few short months ago, we heard President Biden say how Covid had become a pandemic of the “unvaccinated.” This line went on a rinse/repeat cycle by all members of the self-proclaimed Covid ruling class. Now as more and more evidence emerges from other countries on injection efficacy, government bureaucrats and Big Pharma are changing the narrative; they want mandates. As Jordan Schachtel argues in this post from his The Dossier newsletter, the mandates are not about health and safety but covering up their own misguided earlier directives.
The Tragedy Of America’s Rural Schools.
Casey Parks of the NY Times Magazine spent years reporting this very sad but phenomenal story about what education looks like for Harvey Ellington, a teenager in rural Holmes County, Mississippi, the poorest county in the poorest state, who tries to do something about it. The story is a long read, but worth seeing the contrast between resources in communities in the rural south and areas like Chicagoland.
The 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time.
Readers of the Six know how much we love our lists…this one is a doozy. Rolling Stone compiles the 500 best songs in the history of music. RS did the same thing in 2004, but updates the list in 2021. They reached out far and wide in gathering the list; polling artists, producers and industry executives. Every genre is covered here, whether you like straight up guitar-driven rock (include me there), hip-hop, country, rap blues or EDM. Can you guess what made No. 1? It’s all about respect.
Daniel Craig’s Final Scene As James Bond.
We’re less than three weeks out from the release of the next James Bond (titled “No Time To Die”) movie. I don’t know how good the movie is going to be, and at this point, does anybody care? It’s been delayed for a year and a half due to Covid and another Bond film is just the shot in the arm (pun intended) the movie industry needs. This article from Variety is a teaser for an Apple documentary on the filming of the film, reportedly the last time Daniel Craig will play the role of James Bond.
Investment Firm Raises Millions To Bring Back Extinct Mammoth.
HBO has been replaying the movie “Jurassic Park” over and over again in recent weeks so very appropriate timing with this story (h/t to my sister, Elizabeth, for sending me the article). A bioscience and genetics company named Colossal raised over $100 million for the purposes of harvesting genes to recreate and give rebirth to 10,000-year old wholly mammoths. Wow. Pretty cool stuff from The Guardian.
Wild Hyena Attacks Villagers In India.
OK, so I saw a tweet with this headline earlier in the week. Figured it would be perfect for the Six. But we needed video. Found it from the Times of India. Creepy and weird (just the we like it on the Six!) with a long angle view and complete with a man ferociously hitting back at the crazed hyena with what appears to be a stick. And we complain about loud dogs in this country.
Have a great rest of your holiday weekend everybody. Thanks for reading as always.
