Hi Sunday Six readers…another busy week of news in all categories.
We had debate analysis, NFL game cancellation and in the latest virus dispatch, President Trump is now a carrier.
As if Twitter needed more ammunition for its feed of misdeeds.
I did read quite a bit this week and here are six of the most interesting articles I read and why.
How Trump May Have Contracted The Virus
Word of President Trump coming down with the virus is another blow-your-hair-back moment. How could he have gotten in? This WP article walks through a timeline of his activities leading up to when he first tested positive.
Why Illinois Gov. Pritzker Remains Stubborn About Lockdown
As boarder states open up, allow youth sports and businesses to open, Illinois remains sluggish. Gov. Pritzker has been less than transparent about his reasoning, other that muttering vague platitudes about ‘health and safety’ and ‘vaccine’ when pressed on the issue. This article is a hypothesis on Pritzker’s motivation and a sound one. Thanks to my sister, Heather, for passing along!
Iowa Searches For New Model for Olympic Sports
There is going to be reckoning in college sports on the concept of amateurism. Athletes are on the doorstep of receiving income by way of the Olympic model of name, image and likeness. One Chicago area business entrepreneur is pushing for a new system that he hopes will save the swim and dive program at Iowa while also generating a sustainable model to preserve Olympic sports for years to come.
Tom Petty, Three Years After His Death
We are at a phase in culture where famous music artists from the boomer generation are seemingly dying off every year. One that went way too soon is Tom Petty. It’s been three years since the great singer and guitarist Petty died of a heart attack after a long tour with his band, the Heartbreakers. With family estate problems out of the way, a re-issue of one of his best-known mid-90’s records.
Why Understanding Viral Load Matters
As NFL rolls into Week 4, the league is dealing with a few virus outbreaks. Most notably, New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton tested positive Saturday. But almost certainly, he did not catch the virus from playing football. This article from a sports medicine doctor explains the concept of ‘viral load’ and the minimal risks behind playing contact sports and catching the virus.
Waiting For The Return Of James Bond Now Until 2021
I have not been to a movie theater in 2020. Partly that has to do with theaters being closed for most of the summer, the other being, what is there to see? But I can tell you this…I’ll be spending $12 on a sodium saturated bucket of popcorn at least twice in 2021. The Top Gun sequel “Maverick” will finally come out in July and three months before, the latest installment of James Bond. “No Time To Die” has been pushed back to April 2021, one year after its originally scheduled release date.
