How is everybody’s weekend going? Thanks again for spending part of your Sunday reading the Six.
The line up today features articles on a mea-culpa from a politician, an argument for the virtues of clutter, a new album from one of rock’s most enduring artists and a new home for Charlie Brown’s holiday specials.
Let’s proceed with the Six:
This is a stunning reversal from a politician who has spent his career dodging conventions and thumbing his nose at rules and regulations. Former New Jersey governor and Trump advisor Chris Christie admits he was wrong not to wear a mask at a super-spreader event at the White House a few weeks ago. He contracted the virus at the event. I have gained respect for Christie for this public admission that he was wrong.
This is a really interesting essay on accumulating objects that normally might be perceived as clutter, but for some, can be comforting during the pandemic. The pictures really add texture to the piece, as much a visual essay as a written one.
Bruce Springsteen Not An Alpha Male
I first listened to Bruce Springsteen when ‘Born In The USA’ came out in 1984. His image from that record was decidedly masculine—blue jeans, hot rods and Bobbie Jean. But there’s another side to Springsteen decidedly different. He’s a soft-hearted emotional guy who sings about themes men think about but can’t express. That’s why he’s The Boss. His new album "Letters To You” is his best work in years.
Charlie Brown No Longer on Network TV
I usually set my DVR every year to CBS or ABC for “It’s A Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” This year, Charlie and friends have moved to a streaming platform (who hasn’t?), Apple TV. I do pay the $4.99 for Apple (one of those charges so small I barely notice) and I’ll get my money’s worth this holiday season.
University of Texas Band Won’t Play School’s Most Famous Song
The latest example of college campus ‘woke’ culture gone haywire. Just read it.
Florida Man Attacks Girlfriend With Pumpkin
Why is it that these insane stories always seem to happen in Florida? How’s this quote from the police report: “The victim was covered in pumpkin seeds and pulp.” And how the attacker, “was heavily intoxicated while engaged in a verbal argument with his girlfriend.” Just a couple of fools in love.
