How is everyone’s weekend going? My favorite TV show lately? The College World Series.
It’s been on almost every night this month. Women’s (softball) and men’s. Loud, boisterous and maskless crowds at the stadium in Omaha, Nebraska. The players, most of whom playing their final games as a competitive athletes, on the steps of the dugout, living and dying with every pitch.
The games are great theater. I’d recommend catching an inning or two this week on ESPN. You’ll probably stay longer.
Today’s Six features articles on the Biden/Fauci “Delta” variant deception, the life and tragic death of a former football star, a water shortage in California and an out-of-control chimpanzee in Oregon.
Let’s proceed with the Six.
Biden Administration and Fauci’s Purposeful Deception.
If on Twitter as much as I am (most of Six readers are not I’m sure) a daily trending topic for the last few weeks is the virus’s “Delta Variant.” Jordan Schachtel, author of the excellent “The Dossier” newsletter, writes how the Biden Administration’s fear campaign is in full throttle and becoming commoditized through chief medical scientist and lackey, Dr. Fauci. What is the motivation for the gloom and doom messaging? Schachtel breaks it down in this article.
A Fallen Warrior: The Life and Death of Colt Brennan.
I remember what a lightning bolt the University of Hawaii football team was a little over a decade ago. Undefeated season, playing blue blood Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. And their quarterback…Colt Brennan. Sounds like a character from a Marvel Studios film. But life after football was not good for Brennan who struggled with depression and substance abuse. The Los Angeles Times with a fantastic piece of narrative journalism on the life and tragic death of Brennan.
I’ve read a few books by author Jon Meacham, the most recent a biography of civil rights activist and US congressman John Lewis. This piece from Harper’s takes a look at Meacham who has been a biographer of past presidents, has the ear of the current one and who loves—no really, loves—a lot of the men who held the office before.
Why Some Californians Are Running Out of Water And Some Aren’t.
As a young child, our family lived in Southern California for a few years. I have vague recollections of potential water shortages and conversations about water preservation. Fast forward four decades later…some parts of California are running out of water. Cal Matters does a deep dive into why some areas of the state are expected to go dry this year and why others are in good shape.
Wild Chimpanzee On The Loose in Oregon.
Loyal readers of the Six know how much we love our animal stories. When I stumbled upon a headline featuring “Chimpanzee” and “on the loose” earlier this past week, I immediately knew it would make the Six. Unfortunately, this story does not end well for the chimp.
Rare Fish With Human Like Teeth Has Quirky Appetite.
A bonus animal story this week! Couldn’t resist this one although male readers will wince after reading headline. The Pacu fish typically swims in Amazon waters. But it was recently caught by a fisherman off the coast of Sweden. What makes the Pacu so unusual? It at times has a craving for…well you’ll just have to read the article and see accompanying photo to find out.
Have a great rest of your weekend everybody. We’ll be taking next Sunday off to celebrate the 4th of July holiday. Thanks for reading as always.
