Here is this week’s Sunday Six.
Big Ten Football on Thanksgiving Weekend?
The soap opera that will not die. Days of Our Big Ten continues with the latest leak to reporters about a potential 2020 season starting Thanksgiving weekend. Television partners are reportedly on board with the idea. Big Ten football Thursday night, Friday night and all day Saturday in December? Sign me up right now.
Nebraska Football Players Sue Big Ten
I don’t know if this case was a catalyst for the Big Ten resumption of football plan, but it’s a predictable outcome from the conference’s premature decision to cancel the 2020 season. Lost of billable hours flying around in college sports right now. Don’t know how case will play out but this article is a good summary of what the players are asking for.
Oliver Stone Almost Cast Keanu Reeves in 'Platoon’
I can’t get enough of casting what if’s in Hollywood. Fun to go down that rabbit hole. Oliver Stone has a new memoir out and he’s doing a lot of interviews. Stone threw out this nugget about preferring to cast Keanu Reeves in the lead role in his Oscar-winning Vietnam movie ‘Platoon’ from the mid-80’s. Could see a young Reeves pulling it off. Tough watch but a great movie that still holds up.
The 70’s and 80’s were the golden years for album covers. None as memorable as that for ‘Born to Run’, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s break out record from 1975. A ragamuffin Springsteen leaning against band mate saxophone player Clearance Clemons. The Big Man and Scooter.
Film Enthusiast Travels From California to Texas To See Screening
I’m old enough to remember standing in line for hours to wait and see the original ‘Star Wars’. The reward was two hours with Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. But a Christopher Nolan film? I dig his ‘Batman’ series and ‘The Prestige’ is a great movie. With the virus forcing shut downs of movie theaters, there are resourceful (and those with lots of disposable income) film buffs who will find a way to see one of the year’s most anticipated movies.
The Right Way to Promote Social Justice
I have tremendous respect for professional athletes using their platform to push causes that matter to them. But to boycott games? Seems counterintuitive and slightly childish. This NBA player, Draymond Green, has it right.
