How is everybody’s long weekend going? Thanks for spending part of your Sunday reading The Six.
The line up today features articles on the Covid vaccine’s soon-to-be black market, Paul McCartney just can’t stop making music, a Chicago baseball announcer switches teams and wild turkeys are wrecking havoc in a Pennsylvania town.
How’s that for a tease?
Let’s proceed with the Six.
President-Elect Biden Asks Familiar Face to Join His Team
When Joe Biden moves into the White House Jan. 20, changes are expected in this country. One thing Biden wants to remain the same—the influence of Dr. Fauci. The famous Covid doctor was asked by Biden to remain in his job and serve is Chief Medical Officer for his administration. Fauci accepted on the spot.
Len Kasper Switches Jobs But Stays in Chicago
As I Cubs fan, it’s been an unsetting last few months. First Theo Epstein resigned unexpectedly. The team has to figure out what do with a roster filled with soon-to-be-free agents. And then a shocker—Len Kasper, the long time television voice of the Cubs, is taking the radio job with the White Sox. What? It’s not quite like Harry Caray leaving the Southside for the Northside in 1982 but the news still rocked Cubs Nation. Kasper has a first love for radio and from what he’s said, has long dreamed of a job in that medium. Good for him, wish him well but Kasper will be missed.
Music Still Runs Through Paul McCartney
Almost sixty years since the Beatles recorded their first album, Paul McCartney is still writing and recording. He used the pandemic as an opportunity to record his third self-titled record, “McCartney III” where on it, he plays every instrument. McCartney is a remarkably productive musician, arguably the most active in the history of music. This Q&A also addresses still-raw emotions over the death of Beatles songwriting partner John Lennon, who was murdered 40 years ago this month.
The Rich and Privileged Can Skip the Line For the Vaccine
The roll out of the Covid vaccine is already under way and will be the story of the first half of 2021. Whenever there is a high demand for a product, a black market ensues. That is expected to be the case for the vaccine and those with means will skip the line past those first allocated for doses.
Wild Turkeys Terrorize Pennsylvania Town
Stories like these make me long for my local television news days. Wild turkeys? Check. Running free in suburbia? Check? Attacking residents? Check. Film at 10. Be sure to watch the video piece that is both hilarious (because of the turkey puns in the narration) and creepy.
It’s the season of lists! There are lists of everything from inventions (one of last week’s Six) to holiday gifts and cocktails to vacation getaways. Here is one of books. Not necessarily the best, but books noteworthy based on subject matter and/or author. One on Ronald Reagan looks interesting (there’s a new documentary on Showtime about Reagan) as does a book where the author spends a year inside the college admissions process.
Have a great rest of your weekend everybody. Thanks for reading as always.
